Families call for dyslexia screening in prep

“Nine out of 10 dyslexic kids are undiagnosed – these kids struggle desperately in a pit of misunderstanding,” said Jason Henham, the CEO of the Specific Learning Difficulties Association of Victoria (SPELD). “They think they are dumb because the system hasn’t recognised that they just learn differently. Some schools are doing some great things but for parents it’s essentially a lottery.”

“The association is lobbying both sides of politics to commit to universal screening in the lead-up to the state election. The campaign forms part of Dyslexia Empowerment Week, which runs until October 25.”
